Smart Struts are probably the single best improvement there is for C2 and C3 Corvettes. They improve handling, reduce uneven tyre wear, hub bearing wear and side loading. They virtually eliminate rear wheel camber changes. This greatly improves the tyre/road contact patch - keeping rear tyres perpendicular to the road surface at all times.

On the Corvettes rear suspension the driveshaft forms the upper wishbone and the strut rod forms the lower wishbone, in stock form the two are at very different angles resulting in considerable camber change when cornering. The Corvette’s rear camber setting changes over 2 degrees at 2.5” of wheel travel. 

With Smart Struts, the custom mounting bracket puts the strut rod at a more parallel angle to the driveshaft, thereby creating a more effective independent rear suspension setup, and as a result camber change is less than 1/10 of a degree at 5” of wheel travel. This has the effect of stiffening the rear suspension considerably. 

They are also about the only successful way to tame very bouncy composite monosprings.
